Living in Hobart(abandoned)

Hobart is the capital of Tasmania and Australia’s second oldest established capital city, behind Sydney. It has a population of around 210,000 people and is on Australia’s only island state, with the city situated about 500 km south of Australian mainland’s most southern point, which is just below Melbourne.
Hobart offers a contrasting blend of heritage, scenery and culture, with world-class activities and attractions nearby. Nestled amongst the foothills of Mt Wellington, Hobart combines heritage charm with a modern lifestyle in a setting of exceptional beauty. It’s no wonder Lonely Planet has called Hobart one of the top ten spots to visit in the world right now.

Hobart is Tasmania’s capital city and the second oldest capital in Australia, after Sydney. Located at the entrance to the Derwent River, its well-preserved surrounding bushland reaches close to the city centre and beaches line the shores of the river and estuary beyond.

With its captivating history, picturesque waterways, rugged mountains and gourmet experiences, the city has something for everyone.

Climate

Hobart has a mild, temperate, maritime climate with four distinct seasons. The warmest months, January and February, are also the driest. It’s often cool and cloudy in Hobart, but this doesn’t prevent a lot of outdoor activity. The city itself, while exposed to the southerly winds from the Antarctic, is protected by Mt Wellington from the worst westerly weather, and to some extent by Mt Nelson in the south. Sports and other outdoor activities are possible at all times of the year. More detalis: http://www.discoverhobart.com/hobart

Public transport

Most public transport within the city is via an extensive network of public and private bus services. The main arterial routes within the urban area are the Brooker Highway to Glenorchy and the northern suburbs, the Tasman Bridge and Bowen Bridge across the river to Rosny and the Eastern Shore, and the Southern Outlet Road south to Kingston and the Channel.

Leaving the city, motorists can travel the Lyell Highway to the west coast; Midlands Highway to Launceston and the north; Tasman Highway to the east coast, or the Huon Highway to the far south. Hobart is serviced by Hobart International Airport, and the smaller Cambridge Aerodrome (which mainly serves small charter airlines offering local tourist flights).
